Activities in the Nursery

The children move freely between the different areas of the nursery. These include The Playroom, Montessori Room, Quiet Room and an Outside Area. All sections cover the six areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Playroom

The playroom is organised into a number of Learning Areas which cover all six areas of Early Years Development. (See this page for more details)

The Quiet Room

In this area, language and literacy skills are developed as children are encouraged to enjoy looking at books, listening to story tapes and to draw and write in a free and creative way using a variety of resources. The computer and listening centre support children’s emerging ICT skills.

Outdoor Activities

There are a wealth of opportunities to access all areas of the curriculum out of doors. There are a variety of wheeled vehicles, a trampoline, climbing frame and large sandpit. We utilise the natural resources of the garden and the adjoining fields and woodland of the farm. Children take part in “Forest School” activities in the woodland on a regular basis.

Montessori Area

In the calm atmosphere, where a continual emphasis is placed on self-awareness and sensitivity to others, the teachers guide the child’s growing skills, challenging and expanding them with a variety of materials.
